SEÑORITA CHIQUE ARCHIVE: UCLA's LaGente News Magazine
By Melody Tavitian-Parra
Hello Everyone!
I am proud to say that during my time at UCLA I had the wonderful opportunity to work as a an editor and columnist with LaGente News Magazine, a media publication dedicated to representing the wide array of interests, concerns, and tastes unique to L.A.'s Latin population.
I approached the news magazine's editor with the desire to not only become a part of the LaGente family, but add a thriving new section to the already flourishing publication.
The addition I wanted to make to the magazine was something very near and dear to my heart, for I wanted to write about the countless Latin influences we see in the realm of L.A. fashion, while giving a little background as to the heritage and roots they come from! I was completely passionate about this subject and already had the creative juices flowing as to how I could discuss the Latin spice we see in the wide variety of trends, outfits, and designs we witness on a daily basis in the L.A. fashion scene.
To my delight, my idea was embraced with great warmth and I received my own column and blog under the title of SEÑORITA CHIQUE. I absolutely LOVED writing as a columnist and blogger and working as an editor, all the while serving as a voice for my cultural community. Although my articles are archived in the publication's hardcopy records, I have joyfully assembled all my articles into an online portfolio, so here they are. All of the art and editing is also done by yours truly. Please visit lagente.org and leave a comment if you have the chance! Enjoy : )
